Congressman Alford Sends Letter Regarding USPS Mail Delivery Delays

Washington, DC – Earlier today, Congressman Alford (MO-04) sent a letter the United States Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General Louis DeJoy concerning recent mail delivery delays in Missouri. Specifically, the letter asks:

  • What specific strategies are the USPS implementing to assist local Post Offices, particularly those in rural areas, in resolving the current backlog of mail?
  • What measures are being taken to address the staffing shortages and ensure an adequate workforce at USPS facilities?

Congressman Alford issued the following statement:

“The Postal Service is vital, especially for the many rural communities that I represent. It is unacceptable that the USPS has been failing to fulfill their Congressionally mandated six-day delivery window. These delays carry tangible consequences; constituents have shared accounts of delayed checks resulting in late fees on bill payments.

I hope that Postmaster General DeJoy can provide a real plan to solve this issue, and ensure rural Americans get their mail.”
