Alford Offices to Remain Open, Assisting Constituents as Democrats Shut Down U.S. Government

At midnight, the federal government shut down as Democrats continue to hold America hostage for their radical $1.5 trillion wish list of partisan demands, which includes removing additional protections against illegal aliens receiving Medicaid, reinstating Green New Scam climate schemes in foreign countries, and gutting the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program.

Almost two weeks ago, Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) and House Republicans passed a clean, non-partisan continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open and serving the American people until November 21, 2025. Every single House Democrat except one voted to shut down the government. Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, also repeatedly voted to shut down the government by denying the votes necessary for the clean CR to overcome the Senate filibuster.

Make no mistake: This is a Schumer Shutdown.

Throughout the shutdown, Congressman Alford’s offices in Missouri and Washington, D.C. will remain open with staff available to serve our constituents. Whether it’s questions about legislation, or issues with federal agencies and benefits like Social Security, Medicare, and Veterans Affairs, our office will remain open and working for the residents of Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District.

Our offices can be reached through our website, alford.house.gov, as well as by telephone:

  • 816.441.6318 (Raymore)
  • 417.532.5582 (Lebanon)
  • 573.540.6600 (Columbia)
  • 202.225.2876 (Washington, DC)

Several federal government services and benefits are being jeopardized by the Schumer Shutdown as Democrats hold the American government hostage for $1.5 trillion in ransom, including:

  • Thousands of federal government employees have been furloughed
  • Military servicemembers’ paychecks, including those currently deployed overseas
  • Veterans Affairs Department services, including the Education Benefits Support Call Center, Veteran Readiness and Employment and career planning services, Transition Assistance Programs, National Cemetery Service, and veterans outreach programs
  • Low-income rental assistance, including for homeless veterans
  • The National Flood Insurance Program has lapsed in the middle of hurricane season
  • Food assistance for low-income women, infants, and children through the WIC program
  • Firefighter pay for wildfire response
  • Small Business Administration loans to help main street thrive and grow
  • Federal law enforcement paychecks, while they continue putting their lives on the line to protect our communities
  • The Acute Hospital Care at Home Initiative, which allows low-income and Medicare patients to be treated at home rather than in the hospital
