WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) has been selected to serve on the prestigious House Appropriations Committee, a vital committee responsible for funding the federal government and determining how taxpayer dollars are allocated. Established in 1865, the Appropriations Committee holds the power of the purse, ensuring the funding priorities of Congress are carried out.
 
Congressman Alford’s selection marks a significant milestone for Missouri, restoring representation on the committee and amplifying the state’s voice on critical issues like agriculture, national defense, and small business development.
 
“I am humbled and honored by the Steering Committee’s decision to place me on the most consequential committee in Congress - the Appropriations Committee,” said Congressman Alford. “Serving on this committee gives Missouri a seat at the table where funding decisions are made—decisions that affect our farmers, military installations, and small businesses. With 87,000 farms, Whiteman Air Force Base, Fort Leonard Wood, and thousands of small businesses across Missouri’s Fourth District, I will ensure our district priorities are not just heard but acted upon.”
 
The Appropriations Committee oversees the funding of federal programs and agencies, influencing every aspect of government from defense spending to infrastructure investment. Congressman Alford’s leadership will bring much-needed focus to Missouri’s agricultural needs, including supporting the state’s role as a national leader in farming and rural development. Additionally, his service will bolster advocacy for Missouri’s military communities, such as Whiteman Air Force Base and Fort Leonard Wood, which are vital to both national security and the state’s economy.
