Congressmen Mark Alford and Jim Costa Introduce National Agriculture Day Legislation
Washington,
March 19, 2024
Washington, D.C. – As first reported by Politico, earlier today, Congressmen Mark Alford (MO-04) and Jim Costa (CA-21) introduced a bipartisan resolution to officially recognize March 19th as National Agriculture Day.
Original co-sponsors of the resolution are the following Representatives(59):
Congressman Alford issued the following statement:
“The men and women that represent the agriculture industry work 365 days year, sunup to sundown, to feed, clothe, and fuel the world. Their work is the foundation of our great nation and deserves to be celebrated. For years, this industry has recognized a National Agriculture Day. Just like year’s past, my colleagues and I are once again calling on Congress to officially do the same.
Congressman Jim Costa and I have introduced a bipartisan resolution to do just that. Without farmers, ranchers, and other agriculturists our world would not be what it is today. We are proud to see so many of our colleagues join us in this effort.”
I hope my colleagues in the House will join us in this fight.”
Congressman Costa added:
“Agriculture is part and parcel of America’s national security. Having an abundance of nutritious, affordable, and quality food on America’s dinner table is critical every night. The San Joaquin Valley is the nation's agricultural powerhouse, producing over 300 commodities. I’m proud to lead this resolution to recognize the vital contributions that farmers, ranchers, dairymen and women make to our agricultural economy.”
Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson said:
“America’s producers are the backbone of our nation. They work tirelessly 365 days a year to provide food, fuel, and fiber to consumers at home and abroad. National Ag Day recognizes the essential impact the industry has on our everyday lives.”
