Congressman Alford Leads Letter Concerning the White House's Partnership with TikTok Influencers

As first reported by Daily Mail, earlier today, Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) led 18 of his colleagues in a letter to White House General Counsel Mr. Stuart Delery. The letter expressed grave concerns regarding the Biden administration's plans to engage social media influencers, particularly those on the Chinese Communist Party-affiliated platform TikTok, for promoting its agenda within the White House premises. Specifically, the letter says:

“This extremely irresponsible action is a blatant and severe national security threat that will only empower the espionage efforts of one of our greatest adversaries. China has already infiltrated multiple facets of our society. This infiltration is largely due to TikTok, which the CCP has utilized to surveil and access data for over 140 million Americans.”

The letter was co-signed by the following Representatives (18).

  • Guy Reschenthaler (PA-37)
  • Carlos Gimenez (FL-26)
  • James Moylan (GU-at large)
  • Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02)
  • Bill Posey (FL-08)
  • Nick LaLota (NY-01)
  • Rick Crawford (AR-01)
  • Cory Mills (FL-07)
  • Jennifer Kiggans (VA-02)
  • Nancy Mace (SC-01)
  • Tom Kean (NJ-07)
  • Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13)
  • Keith Self (TX-03)
  • Rudy Yakym (IN-02)
  • Andy Ogles (TN-05)
  • John Moolenaar (MI-02)
  • Randy Feenstra (IA-04)
  • Andy Biggs (AZ-05)

Congressman Mark Alford issued the following statement:

“Right now, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has their tentacles in everything our society does. TikTok plays a serious role in that. For months, my Republican colleagues and I have been calling for a complete ban of the platform. Joe Biden’s decision to not only use the platform, but to bring ‘influencers’ into the White House is unacceptable and poses a serious national security threat.

We must decouple American society from the CCP as swiftly as possible – that starts with restricting TikTok. I strongly urge this Administration to reconsider their decision immediately.”
