Congressman Alford Leads Letter to White House Concerning Shortcomings in Administration’s National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism

Last night, Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) led a letter to Joe Biden concerning the recent announcement of the White House’s ‘National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism’. The Congressman asks the Administration to clarify which definition of antisemitism they will use to assess occurrences of antisemitism and is requesting they use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition.

The letter also asks the Administration to shed more light on the external stakeholders involved with this effort and if updates on stakeholder engagement will be made public.

The original co-signers of the letter are the following representatives (4).

  • Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03)
  • Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01)
  • Mike Lawler (NY-17)
  • Anthony D’Esposito (NY-04)

Congressman Alford issued the following statement:

“While I do support a strategy to combat antisemitism, my colleagues and I are concerned the Administration’s does not go far enough. The Jewish community deserves to be protected at all costs. That’s exactly why we are asking for clarification on definitions being used by this Administration and ensuring their plan is robust enough. We look forward to a prompt response.
