With the Missouri State Fair underway, I wanted to take a few moments to discuss the state fair and what it means for Missouri.
The state fair is a time-honored tradition that celebrates Missouri’s farmers, ranchers, producers, and the overall agriculture community.
Missouri is home to over 95,000 farms, just behind Texas as the state with the most farms in America. This is a testament to the power of agriculture in our state, which contributes an impressive $93.7 billion to our economy.
Agriculture is the backbone of Missouri’s economy, and that’s why it’s why we are working so hard to get a Farm Bill passed.
My colleagues and I on the House Agriculture Committee passed the Farm Bill out of Committee in May, and we are hoping to see it on the House Floor soon. This Farm Bill includes my A-Plus Act, which would fix regulatory roadblocks to increase meat processing capacity by allowing livestock auction market owners to invest in small and regional packing facilities.
The Farm Bill also includes my legislation with Rep. Jasmine Crockett: the Supporting All Healthy Options When Purchasing Produce (SHOPP) Act. This bill will ensure that all forms (frozen, fresh, canned, and dried) of fruits and vegetables are eligible under the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GUSNIP).
The Farm Bill package also includes provisions from my Biomanufacturing and Jobs Act. It would require each federal agency to increase their procurement of biobased-only contracts or biobased volume purchased under those contracts. Among other things, the legislation would strengthen markets for farmers while also supporting good-paying manufacturing jobs.
As Missourians from across the state come together in Sedalia, we can all celebrate the power of Missouri ag with some great music, fun, and food.
As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I’m proud to represent the hard-working farmers, ranchers, and producers in Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District. We will never stop fighting for YOU!
